On Thursday 22 September, Andems Runners will celebrate Dr. Ron Hill’s 78th birthday with a 5k race around the scenic Cown Reservoir in Rochdale. Long regarded as Britain’s greatest ever long distance athlete, Ron has also confirmed he will be taking part in the 5k – and staying around for a post-race drink too with his fans.
Organised by Andems Runners with assistance from Rochdale Harriers, Ron’s 78th birthday will be hosted at the Cock and Magpie Pub in Rochdale. Kicking off at 6:30pm, the race will take runners on a road and reservoir 5k.
Even with its scenic profile, the race has been known to produce some fast performances, current course records are held by Joe Bailey (15:09) and Jessica Coulson (16:41).
So far, 200 entries have been received with a limit of 300. Registration is priced at just £10.40 (£8.40 attached) and each runner will receive a commemorative mug. More information is available here.
