Kielder Filling Fast

Kielder MarathonThose considering taking part in the Kielder Marathon's weekend of events, scheduled over the weekend of 3 and 4 October, are being encouraged to register with entries filling fast. With Kielder water, the largest man-made lake in northern Europe, as its backdrop, the 26.2 mile event is regarded as Britain's most beautiful marathon.

Last year, the Kielder 10K and Run-Bike-Run races reached a record-breaking number of entrants, with more than 1000 people taking part in the two events. The weekend also includes a half marathon, which has proven to be a popular addition already with 500 entries received.

Supported by Active Northumberland, Kielder Marathon takes place at Kielder Water & Forest Park in Northumberland and follows the Lakeside Way, a trail that stretches right around the shoreline of Northumbrian Water’s Kielder Water. Organisers are predicting that they will reach full capacity again this year, and with over 800 entries into the main marathon so far, it’s thought that too will also reach a record number of runners.

Former Olympic athlete and event director, Steve Cram, said: “Kielder Marathon weekend is into its sixth year now and the number of participants just keeps on growing. I’m delighted with the huge success of the event and this year is particularly exciting for us as we introduce the new half marathon to the weekend.”
