Following High Trail Events’ launch of a trail ultra in Kielder this spring, Open Adventure has announced details of their own endurance event, ‘Lakes In A Day.’ The race, scheduled for 11 October, will consist of a linear, 48 mile route from Caldbeck to Cartmel over some of Lakeland's highest fells.
The course will move from the Lake District at Caldbeck to the very bottom, at Cartmel, via the stunning Helvellyn Ridge and the western shoreline of Lake Windermere. This will include over 4000m of ascent, a feature that organiser James Turlow believes will give the race a distinctive feel: “This is a route that inspires me to get out and run. It'll be spectacular and a true adventure. It really is a journey that takes the Lakeland High Road."
Lakes In A Day will take a linear, A to B form to ensure competitors feel like they are making a journey and is one in which Open Adventure, as organisers of the Coast to Coast Cycle, have experience of.
Throughout the 48 miles, racers will be expected to self-navigate and carry their own food and gear for safety, however well-stocked feed stations will be on hand along the way. Entry fee is set at £50 for registration before 1 May.
