Entries for the next instalment of the Lakeland Trail series, the Lakeland Trails Marathon, close this Sunday (9 June), with potential participants encouraged to register for an event that is known to be one of the most picturesque in the UK.
Due to take place on Sunday 7 July, the marathon follows a complete circuit of Coniston Water along well-marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways. Taking in the idyllic beauty spot of Tarn Hows, and the elevated Beacon Tarn, the whole course gives panoramic views of Lake Coniston and the surrounding peaks of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags.
For those wanting a shorter option, the Lakeland Trails half marathon utilises the first 17km section of the marathon course as far as Tarn Hows, before heading back to Coniston.
Last week saw the Lakeland Trails celebrate their anniversary event with the 17K and 10K Kentmere Trail races. Over 1,600 runners and spectators gathered at a sun kissed Staveley Recreation Ground to take part, marking the 10th anniversary of the annual trail running series in Cumbria.
