Runners considering taking part in this Sunday’s Wigan 10K are being encouraged to sign-up before this evening’s (Monday 31 August) entry deadline. The race has already attracted entries over 3,000 and, with live entertainment organised throughout the day, continental food markets and local athlete Jenny Meadows on starters’ duties, it is seen to be an attractive day for both runners and spectators.
The route is flat and fast and will take in many of the town's land marks as it starts in the town centre on Market Street, moves onto Parsons Walk between Wigan College and the new Wigan Youth Zone. Runners will then run around the DW Stadium and into Martland Park Industrial Estate before heading back to the town centre via a loop of Mesnes Park and a finish on Market Street.
Organiser Matt Johnson is delighted Jenny Meadows will be there to set runners on their way: “We are delighted that Jenny has accepted our invitation to start this year’s race. She has been our first choice since we started thinking about our 2015 event at the end of last year. Jenny has been such a fantastic role model for British athletics for so long and has done so much to promote her home town of Wigan that we couldn’t think of anyone better to get our runners under way next month.
“We are getting really excited as race day approaches and we can’t wait for Jenny to be part of our hat-trick of 10ks.”
