Anyone considering making a last minute entry to this weekend’s BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K are being alerted to the fact online registration for the race closes tomorrow afternoon (Thursday 16 June) at 3pm. 3,000 places have been made available for Sunday’s race and there are a small number of places left for potential runners.
Known for its unique setting, the Tunnel has seen its stock consistently rise since it was first staged in 2006. The point to point course starts in Blackstock Street in Liverpool City Centre and finishing at Ian Fraser Walk in New Brighton, just past Perch Rock and the Marine Lake.
2015 saw over 3,000 competitors enjoy fine summer weather for a race that represents the opportunity to run beneath the River Mersey. Taurus Ely completed a trio of consecutive Tunnel victories with a fine winning performance of 32:35, while the first female finisher was Kirsty Longley from Liverpool Pembroke Sefton Harriers in 37:58.
It looks likely Sunday’s field will face similar conditions with the recent floods clearing for temperatures of around 17°, with the sun set to make an appearance in the late afternoon.
Entries are still being taken for the BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K, registration is priced at £23. More information is available here.
