30th Birthday Bash For Dash

Age UK Leeds Abbey DashThe date for the 30th edition of one of the country's leading events, the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash, has been confirmed for Sunday 16 November. Confirmation of the date means that registration for the race, which is expected to attract up to 12,000 runners, is also open.

Renowned for its fast profile, the flat course sees participants depart from Leeds Town Hall through some of the city's most important historical buildings, including Kirkstall Abbey, before returning to Yorkshire Television Studies on the way to the finish line.

Last year's event saw a thrilling finish between three of the fastest runners in the UK, as North Yorks Moors' Matty Hynes (29:23) edged out Josh Lilly and Callum Hawkins to secure top spot, with just two seconds separating the top trio of performers.

In the women's field, Winchester RC's Louise Damen took victory and set a PB in the process, coming home in 33:04. Damen was followed by Belgrave Harriers' Tish Jones (33:16), with Emma Stepto taking third place (33:30).

Registration fee is priced at earlybird rate of £20 (£18 UKA affiliated), which is valid until 31 August. Thereafter, registration is £22 (£20 UKA affiliated). More information is available here

I hope they get the distance right this year as last years new course was 60 metres over 10K distance. 'Who cares?' I hear you say, but I was given an official time of 36.00, when I in fact ran the 10K in 35.48, which would have given me my first 'sub 36' minutes 10K.
