Organisers of the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash 10K have extended an opportunity to an England team to compete at next month’s event. The race, scheduled for Sunday 15 November, has established the enviable reputation of being one of the quickest 10ks on the circuit, making it ideal for posting the development standards set out by England Athletics.
The course sees runners leave Leeds Town Hall and pass through some of the city's most important historical buildings, including Kirkstall Abbey, before returning to Yorkshire TV studios on the way to the finish line.
With an out and back profile, the race creates a highly-charged atmosphere as, along with the supporters, runners encourage each other as they approach and run back from the turn-around point.
With 2018’s Commonwealth Games on the horizon, England Athletics is on the look out for athletes who are capable of reaching the competitive standard for international events. The England Athletics development standards are as follows: Men’s 5k and 10k (14:40 and 30:30) Women’s 5k and 10k (16:40 and 34:30).
