Over 200 runners gathered in Sefton Park in the twilight to celebrate the launch of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series’ flagship event in Las Vegas ahead of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon & Half Marathon on 25 May.

The launch of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series’ flagship event in Las Vegas was celebrated in style in Liverpool last week. Over 200 runners donned glow sticks, whistles and UV face paint as they made their way around Sefton Park. On their return they were treated to American-style food and a free Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas T-shirt courtesy of the BT Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon & Half Marathon team.

Other cities around the world including San Diego, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Chicago, Denver and Washington DC took part in the Night Run, but Liverpool had the biggest participation event worldwide. A total of 16 countries around were involved with the Virtual Night run. Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon & Half Marathon is on 25 May and is seen as a key date for the world’s largest running series.

Race director Rob Griffiths said: “The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is built on a global community of runners. We hold 'free to access' social runs most Sundays to help runners with their training and to build a Liverpool Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon community.

“So far we have 35 nationalities signed up for the Liverpool event and race weekend will be a coming together and celebration of this Rock ‘n’ Roll community where the Liverpool runners will meet with new friends from all over the world.”

Organisers are due to announce the music acts for the Finish Line Festival for the event that starts at The Albert Dock and finishes at the Echo Arena. In addition to the finish line festival there are live bands at every mile. The marathon and half marathon courses showcases the cities scenic views of historic landmarks, rich architecture, spectacular churches, and numerous cultural attractions along the way.
