Liverpool will be transformed into a sea of red, blue and mini Santas on Sunday (4 December) when the city hosts the UK’s biggest festive run. Highly regarded as Merseyside’s kickstart to Christmas, the Santa Dash has also become known for its massive fundraising drive, with Radio City’s Cash For Kids, Everton in the Community, and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, the event’s three official charity partners for 2016.
More than 5,000 runners have already signed up for Sunday’s Radio City Liverpool Santa Dash and the number is likely to rise in the coming days. In what will be the 13th staging of the event, the field will congregate at Pier Head and make their way over a 5k course that moves through the city centre before a grandstand finish outside Liverpool Town Hall.
In the lead up to Saturday’s deadline, organisers are encouraging any would be competitors to partake in the festive spirit. Under the banner of the BTR Footsteps Fundraisers initiative, Santas are invited to dash and raise cash for the three charity partners.
BTR Liverpool race director Alan Rothwell, who created the Liverpool Santa Dash, commented on how important fundraising was to the event: “We are delighted to work with Radio City’s Cash For Kids, Everton in the Community, and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice as our three official charities for the Liverpool Santa Dash 2016.
“Our charity partners support the vulnerable in our local communities by providing help where it is needed the most, making a huge difference to thousands of lives each year. So we’re encouraging Santas to get involved and help to raise funds to enable our charities to continue their vital work.”
Online entries for the Santa Dash are now closed but registration can be made until midday, Saturday 3 December, at Rapid Discount Outlet in Liverpool City Centre. Sponsor forms are also available from BTR Liverpool. More information is available at the BTR website.
