Lord Of The Runs

Sean AstinLord of the Rings star, Sean Astin, is preparing to take part in this year's Boston Marathon. He will be running the Boston event as part of Team MR8 - formed in honour of eight-year-old Martin Richard who was killed in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

The 44-year-old is an avid runner and recently used the Tobacco Road Half Marathon in North Carolina as preparation for the Boston event.

Boston race director, Dave McGillivray invited Astin to join the team and run on behalf of Richard and the foundation his parents established.

Astin blogged about joining the team: "When I lifted this jersey out of the box I got jitters of excitement. Then I read the handwritten card inside. Bill and Denise Richard had taken the time to thank me for becoming a part of their team. They included a great picture of Martin. The jersey in my hand carries just a little more weight now. The Boston Strong Colors, the red letters TEAM. The word Peace written by a child's hand. Wow. I am a part of a team."

Astin has previously discussed how he was forbidden from running whilst filming the Lord of the Rings trilogy: "I was supposed to be fat. I couldn't run for two years. I felt almost toxic most of the time. Which was why my description of Lord of the Rings, of how amazing it was, is coloured with the pain of having been fat and not being able to run."
