Mack To The Future

Craig Mack

Ultra runner, Craig Mackay, has set himself the target of running six extreme challenges in just 12 weeks this summer. Project manager, Craig will cover more than 400 miles, starting at London Marathon on 13 April, and finishing at the 72 Mile Great Glen Ultra on 5 July, raising funds for cancer care charity Maggie's.

The 36-year-old said: “This summer will be tougher than anything I have tried before. Experts normally recommend you take months off between marathons, but I am doing an ultra marathon or something even more extreme every two weeks.

“I am looking forward to it though and delighted I can do something in support of Maggie’s, I know they do incredible work supporting people with cancer.”

By the time he completes his six challenges this summer Craig will have 27 ultra marathons under his belt.  He is also one of only three people to have completed all four Edinburgh Marathon Festival races (5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon) in one weekend.

The six challenges are:

  • London Marathon (26 miles)
  • Highland Fling (53 miles)
  • Transvulcania Ultra (51 miles)
  • City to Summit Iron Man (144 miles) Includes a swim and Craig admits the only swimming he has ever done is splashing around in the pool on holiday.
  • The Wall Ultra (69 miles)
  • Great Glen Way Ultra (72 miles)
