Voted the UK’s ‘Best Trail Race’ the Major Series returns to the North in 2015 with an event on 15 March in Bramham Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire. The four event UK-wide series has grown in popularity since its inception in 2011 with around 18,000 runners expected to take part this year.
Suitable for runners of all fitness levels, whether you’re wanting to compete on your own or with a group, the Major Series is will put you to the test over some of the muddiest 5k and 10k obstacle courses in the UK. Crawling through mud, under barbed wire or dunking into ice baths, participants will have to work as a unit to make it to the finish line. The events themselves are organised by outdoor exercise company, British Military Fitness (BMF), and are marshalled by ‘the Major’s Troops’, all of whom are former or serving members of the British armed forces.
The course has been designed to be achievable even for those who have never taken part in an endurance or obstacle event before. The emphasis is on helping and encouraging competitors around the course and the BMF ‘troops’ are there to provide support should it be needed.
BMF managing director, Rob Love, said; “We’re really looking forward to this year’s events and we want people to come along ready to take on a big challenge. But most importantly we want people to have a good time and a laugh as they battle their way through the mud. There is always a lot of camaraderie out on our courses, with fellow competitors stopping to help each other out, so even if you’ve never tried something like this before you can be sure of making it round and feeling that sense of achievement as you cross the finish line.”
Entry starts from £40 for the 5k course and £45 for the 10k course per person. For more information or to sign up, visit the event website.
