Highlights of the 2016 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon will hit the screen this Saturday (23 April) when Channel 4 broadcasts a half-hour programme of the race. The programme will be presented by former English sprinter and Olympic medalist Katharine Merry and gives participants the opportunity to re-live the excitement of the day.
Sunday 10 April saw over 9,500 runners enjoy glorious sunshine in what was the event’s 40th anniversary. The bumper field, departing from a new start point at the Trafford Arch, was given a fitting send off from legend Dr Ron Hill.
The television coverage will air 6.10am on Channel 4 and then at 7.10am on Channel 4 + 1 and 4 On Demand. Made by Dream Team Television, one of the UK’s leading production companies for Channel 4 and other major broadcasters, the programme is expected to have a total reach of over one million viewers.
Race director Simon Hill commented: “We were delighted to secure filming of the 2016 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon and are very much looking forward to seeing the programme aired on 23rd April. It is a great tribute to all those who took part and were involved, and we hope that it will inspire more athletes from the UK and further afield to join us for future events in Manchester.”
Looking ahead to 2017, Simon added: “Those who wish to experience all that Greater Manchester has to offer ahead of next year’s marathon can sign up for the inaugural Manchester Half Marathon in October. This promises to be a brilliant day, with all the support and entertainment that people have come to know and love in Manchester.”
