Mo Farah has confirmed he will compete at the Birmingham Diamond League on Sunday 5 June. Farah’s participation at the Miidlands event will be central to his preparations for the Olympic Games in Rio, where he will aim to defend his 5,000 and 10,000m titles.
Leading into the Diamond meet, Farah will be heading to Glasgow to take part in the Indoor Grand Prix on 20 February, before travelling to Cardiff for the World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff the following month. Farah will be competing over 3,000m this week but is undecided as to what distance he will tackle in June.
On his participation at the Midlands race, Farah commented: “The Birmingham Diamond League will be my first big European track race of 2016 and a great platform to test myself on the road to the Olympic Games in Rio – the ultimate competition for every athlete. The British Diamond League meetings always deliver high quality competition and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Following on from the news that Farah will be competing at Birmingham, British Athletics announced that fans will be given the opportunity to run beside Farah as part of their #TwoMoMiles campaign. For this, Farah fans should follow British Athletics on Facebook and Twitter and give the best reason as to why they should accompany the double Olympic champion on a run.
