This year's Bupa Great North Run sees the addition of a new 5k race to the event which takes place in Newcastle this September. The Bupa Great North 5k will be staged on the morning of Saturday 15 September, the day before the iconic half marathon, with a limit of 1500 places available.
The route starts on the Newcastle Quayside, crossing the Swing Bridge to the Gateshead side of the river, passing iconic landmarks such as the Tyne Bridge and the Sage Gateshead, before crossing the Gateshead Millennium Bridge to the finish.
David Hart, communications director at organisers Nova, said: "The Bupa Great North 5k will be an exciting addition to a great weekend of sport in the North East. It's perfect for novice runners, those who missed out on their place in the ballot and experienced runners looking for a new PB on a fast and flat course. It's a good opportunity for those who want to be a part of the Bupa Great North Run weekend to get involved.
Entries for the Bupa Great North 5K are open on a first come, first served basis. For more information on how to enter visit the event website.
