With the dust just settling on another memorable Great Manchester Run, organisers have announced that next year’s event will also include a half marathon. The route, which can be viewed in this video, will utilise many of the city’s landmarks, taking in the Etihad Stadium, Old Trafford and the Mancunian Way.
Last week’s event showcased why the Great Manchester Run is Europe’s largest 10k road race with more than 25,000 runners taking part. Pre-race favourites Kenenisa Bekele and Tirunesh Dibaba stole the headlines with impressive victories in their respective fields.
The addition of the half marathon expands the reach of the Manchester race even further, and, considering the popularity of the 10k, certainly looks like it will be a popular decision. Confirmation arrives amidst the news that organisers, the Great Run Company, have also launched the Stirling Scottish Marathon.
Entries for the race, due to take place on Sunday 28 May, are now open. Further information is available here.
