New Balance To Support Blind Dave

'Blind Dave' Heeley, the marathon runner and charity fundraiser, has received a huge boost ahead of his Top2Toe duathlon challenge with news of major sponsorship from New Balance. The challenge, which starts on August 10, will see Dave run and cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan Cancer Support is the charity which supports people affected by cancer, funding nurses and other specialist health care professionals and building cancer care centres. Macmillan also helps people with practical support at home and advice and financial support for those whose lives are affected by the disease.

With its ongoing commitment to domestic manufacture and jobs, New Balance is delighted to support Dave Healey's uniquely British challenge, and will supply Dave and his team with running shoes including the premium neutral running shoe, the New Balance 1080, and the New Balance 860 supportive running shoe. Meanwhile, the team will also be supplied with New Balance shirts, jackets and water bottles to help them through the journey.

Mark Ward, New Balance General Manager, UK and Ireland said: "Blind Dave is an incredibly inspirational figure, and one whose dedication and love for running is harnessed in a hugely positive way. The Top2Toe challenge is a particularly British endeavour, and as New Balance is the only sports shoe brand to manufacture in the UK it's only right that we should supply shoes and apparel to Dave and his team as they make their way through the country. We encourage everybody to get behind them and support them, wish them the very best of luck with their £100,000 fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support."

Blind Dave Heeley said: "The Top2Toe challenge will take me across the length and breadth of Britain and it's fitting that I will be wearing New Balance shoes, which are manufactured right here in this country, to help me along on the journey.

"I am running for Macmillan Cancer Support as the effects of the disease touch all of us. I lost both my father and father-in-law, and then my last guide dog to cancer. Very recently, its terrible consequences hit home again when it claimed the life of a long-time friend of over 35 years. I'm delighted that New Balance has lent its support as I try to raise money and awareness of this most worthy cause on the occasion of its 100th anniversary."
