Organisers of the 2014 Sheffield Half Marathon have confirmed that the start and finish points of the race have moved to Don Valley Bowl. The move means this will be the first time in 21 years that the event hasn't taken place at Don Valley Stadium.
The move to the open air grass bowl starts a new chapter in the history of Sheffield Half Marathon. Next year's event, scheduled to take place on Sunday 6 April, is expected to attract up to 8,000 runners.
Margaret Lilley, chair of the Half Marathon organising committee, said: "We are incredibly excited about the 2014 event, which promises to be another spectacular day. As the Don Valley is synonymous with the event we wanted to stay in the area and the fact that we have found a new home so close to our old base is definite plus. We will retain the friendly 'being at home feeling' all the runners have come to love.
"We had many happy years at Don Valley Stadium, but the grass bowl will generate an incredible atmosphere amongst both runners and spectators, as it creates a natural amphitheatre."
As well as the half marathon, there are 1,000 places available for the Sheffield Fun Run. Entry for the half marathon is priced at £26 (£24 attached), while the fun run is set at £5. To register, visit the event website.
