The north east will welcome its 16th parkrun event this Saturday with the launch of the Gibside run. Starting on the beautiful Gibside Estate on the Gateshead and County Durham border, the course is said to be fairly challenging with several climbs over the 5k.
The new run has come about through a collaboration of event director Natalie Scott (currently director at Riverside parkrun) and Sam Morgan, the Gibside Estate’s sport development officer.
In addition to hosting the new parkrun event, the estate is home to Blackhill Bounders’ Gibside Fruit Bowl, a hilly 6 mile race that is a favourite in the north east calendar.
Gateshead’s mayor Jack Graham will be on hand to launch the event on Saturday. At 8.45am, all competitors are invited to have their photograph taken outside the chapel to celebrate the opening run. After, everyone is encouraged to visit the Potting Shed Café within the Gibside grounds for a hot drink and cake.
