It seems the North Tyneside 10K Road Race might just be Tadele Geremew and Justina Heslop’s perfect honeymoon spot as the husband and wife recorded their second successive victory there on Easter Sunday (27 March).
Almost 2,000 runners made their way around the 10k couse that took included North Shields Fish Quay, Tynemouth Priory & Castle and a long stretch of coastline before finishing at St Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay.
Organised by North Tyneside Council and supported by Northumbria Spring Water, Tyne Met College and Start Fitness, the event is a popular meet up for club runners and newbies alike.
Geremew even managed to improve on his time from 2015, crossing the line in 30:42, with Blackhill Bounders’ Gary Wallace second (32:55) and Mark Snowball in third place (33:41).
Helsop, meanwhile, took victory in 36:01, with Jacqueline Penn in second (37:47) and Laura Beckett third (39:51). Mid point in the field was Janet Robinson (55:27), while the last runner came home in 2:08:05.
