With a field last year of around 150 runners, the Marple Firefighter’s 10K may not be one of the larger events around yet in its fascinating route, which moves along the Macclesfield Canal, and fundraising incentive at its core, it is certainly deserving of attention.
Scheduled for Saturday 14 September, the race, organised by Marple Fire Fighters, will see the field depart from Rose Hill, at the beginning of the Middlewood Way. From there, the course takes the competitors down the Middlewood Way, just past High Lane, then a gentle climb up onto the Macclesfield Canal and back to Marple.
The finish line will be at Marple Social and Forces Club on Lime Kiln Lane, where participants are rewarded for their exertions with a well-earned complimentary pint and sandwich.
Since its launch in 2007, the event has raised funds for the Firefighters Charity, the UK's leading provider of services that enhance quality of life for serving and retired fire fighters, fire personnel and their families.
Registration for the Marple Firefighter’s 10K is still open, entry is priced at just £12.50. Further details are available here.
