Scott Overall stepped up his preparations for London 2012 securing victory in Sunday's (March 11) Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon. The Blackheath & Bromley runner covered the iconic course in a comfortable 69:45 - far short of his 63:21 PB - but still enough to finish over a minute ahead of his closest competitor.
The event, which is the official warm-up race for next month's Virgin London Marathon, saw 6400 runners take part in bright conditions for what was the 10th staging of the race. Overall later commented on the course: "This the second half-marathon I have run on a motor car racing track, the first at Indianapolis, but this felt an easy run for me today."
In what was only his second race since the memorable breakthrough performance in Berlin, Overall has a busy schedule in the lead up to London: "Warming-up for the Olympics, I will also be racing in New York next weekend at their half-marathon, then pacing in London at the Virgin London Marathon, then on to altitude training in Flagstaff, and racing at the Bupa London 10K in May."
Aside from Overall's victory, Sally Baker of Rugby Triathlon Club finished first in the female field with a time of 1:26:42. Baker was closely followed by Jocelyn Pane in 1:27:08, while Gillian Ciason took third position 1:28:49.
