parkrun goes Dutch

parkrun in Milton Keynes

Plans to further expand the global reach of parkrun took a step further last week with confirmation that the Netherlands will become the 22nd country in which the event is staged. No specific date has been outlined yet plans are currently in development to launch parkrun in major cities across the Netherlands over the course of 2020.

As part of this expansion, a team from parkrun will visit the Netherlands between October 25-29 2019 and meeting with prospective teams and individuals who would like to be part of parkrun Netherlands. Prospective locations include Eindhoven, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Maastricht.

The parkrun team has received the full support of the Dutch Athletics Association, who share the view that the event can act as a great way of increasing participation, physical activity and volunteering in the country.

parkrun now stands as the biggest organiser of free, weekly running, jogging and walking events in the world. Over 6 million people are now registered with parkrun, and around 350,000 people take part each week. A parkrun is a free, weekly, timed event where you can run, jog or walk a 5k distance with others, organised in almost 2000 locations in 21 countries around the world.
