With less than two months until race day, organisers of the Chesterfield Marathon have announced an exciting new partnership with Decathlon’s Eyre Street store in Sheffield. The store has become a major sponsor and partner of the race, which is scheduled for Sunday 20 September and will feature both a full and a half marathon, as well as a four-person team relay and fun run.
After its launch last year, the marathon and accompanying races became one of Chesterfield’s biggest mass participation events in more than 30 years. As with 2014, the race supports local charities and community groups, including Kids ‘n’ Cancer Charity.
This year, all races will start and finish at Queen’s Park in Chesterfield, along with some other route changes (following feedback from last year’s inaugural marathon) to improve traffic control and access, as well as added ‘interest’ for the runners.
Chesterfield Marathon’s Andrea Hooley commented on the arrangement: “This is a wonderful partnership for us. We’ve been specifically looking for a sporting partner to come on board with the marathon. We spoke with Decathlon and they were immediately enthusiastic about getting involved, not just as sponsors, but as partners, which is what we really wanted.”
Andrea added: “Runners can even use the running gait analysis system – an amazing machine that analyses how your body works as you run, giving information that indicates which running shoe best suits your running style. It’s a very exciting partnership for Decathlon and for the Chesterfield Marathon.”
