After the successful staging of the Big Running Weekend at Whirlow Hall Farm in August, race organisers 8.2 have confirmed they will be coordinating the event this year under the name Dig Deep Peak District Races. Taking place over the weekend of 13 and 14 July, 2013 will also see the introduction of the Peak Trail Intro Ultra, a 30 mile race designed for those looking to move beyond marathon distance.
The weekend begins with the Ultra Tour of the Peak District (UTPD), a 60 mile route that takes in some of the finest trails and climbs in the area. As a recognised qualifying race for the Ultra Trail Du Mont Blanc, the UTPD is regarded as a tough ultra with 2722 metres of ascent.
The inaugural Peak Trail Intro Ultra will start later that morning, with the Whirlow 10K Trail Challenge and the 12.12 race both taking place on 14 July. Whirlow Hall Farm Trust will, once again, be the main beneficiary of the four events.
Ian Loombe, race director for the Dig Deep events, commented on the new set-up: "We're really excited to be able to bring the UTPD, 12.12 and Whirlow 10K Trail Challenge back again this year with the addition of the Intro Ultra. Unfortunately Sheffield retailer Accelerate is not going to be able to be involved in the 2013 Dig Deep races but 8.2 and the Whirlow Hall Farm Trust are committed to ensuring that the experience that 2012 competitors had is repeated in the 2013 races."
