Next month’s Pitstop Festival presents a fantastic opportunity for runners to set a summer PB with a fast and flat course at one of the UK’s most popular racing circuits. For the first time ever, the festival will include a 5k run alongside the 10k, wheelchair race and junior fun run.
Organised by Darlington Harriers, the event, scheduled for Wednesday 4 July, will see competitors get on their marks at the Croft motorsport circuit. Based near Dalton-on-Tees, the tarmac circuit is just over two miles long and, unsurprisingly, ideal for picking up some real speed.
For the first time in the event’s 18 years, a 5k will be staged, adding, as organiser Georgie Rutherford says, to the inclusive nature of the festival: “We really do have something for everyone. It is a low-key midweek event with no real fuss but a really welcoming atmosphere.”
Georgie added: “We have had the wheelchair race the entire time and this is quite unique - Tanni Grey Thompson and her athletes come and use our event as a training race every year.”
