The historic market town of Pontefract will host its first half marathon since the 1980s on Sunday (1 October). It seems the half has captured the imagination of those not just in West Yorkshire with organisers confirming that the race has reached capacity.
Sunday’s field will start and finish at Pontefract town centre and tackle a predominantly flat route that guarantees some stunning scenic views as the race progresses into the surrounding countryside.
Spectators will need to be in full voice to support the field with the weather forecast showing there to be around an 80% chance of rain, although that is expected to clear up later in the morning.
Many of those competing will be raising funds for The Prince of Wales Hospice, which has been providing care in West Yorkshire to those with life-limiting illness.
Look out for runABC North’s race report early next week.
