There were strong performances at Sunday’s (6 November) inaugural Western Power Distribution Derby 10. Toby Spencer of Coventry Godiva Harriers won the 2016 Derby 10 mile in 50:36. Luke Gunn of Derby AC was second in 50:45 with teammate Alex Pilcher coming third in 51:54.
Derby AC showed their class in this event with second and third place finishes for the men and first place for their first lady, Rachel Olivant.
Rachel Olivant improved on her runner-up finish at the Derby 10K in April by winning the women’s race in 1:01:34. Ellie Stevens of Birchfield Harriers was second in 1:02:20. Michelle Clarke of Telford AC was third in 1:03:15. Rachel along with Leonie Shipley and Steph Spencer won the female team prize with Sinfin RC winning the men’s team prize.
Philip Norman of PACTRAC was the midpoint runner, finishing in 1:27:22. The last runner crossed the line in 2:21:13.
It was a very cold day for 776 runners who followed a fast, flat course through the grounds of Elvaston Castle Country Park. The race started and finished at the iPro Stadium, home to Derby CountyFC and the venue for the popular Ramathon.
This 10-mile race was the brainchild of the organisers of the Derby Ramathon with key partner Derby County FC (The Rams) lending their backing to this event. Western Power Distribution was the headline sponsor with Annabel’s Angels as the official charity partner. The event aimed to raise funds for this charity who support cancer patients and their families in Derby. It is also the latest addition to the RunDerby series of events.
