Preston will once again welcome up to 2,000 runners with the return of the city’s trio of events (5k, 10k and 2k run / walk) next month. Scheduled for Sunday 25 September, the races have become a popular fixture in the Lancashire calendar and represent a prime opportunity for an early autumn PB.
Both the 5k and 10k begin at the Flag Market and see runners tackle a traffic free course that moves through the city centre and down into Avenham Park. The 2k, which is suitable for both runners and walkers, departs at the later time of 1pm (the 5k and 10k starts at 9am and 10:15am respectively) from Avenham Park.
In 2015, the events were held on the same weekend as the first Lancashire Encounter and saw former European athletics champion Helen Clitheroe secure first place in the women’s 10k in 34:59 with Preston Harriers clubmate David Rigby top in the men’s competition in 31:58.
Entries for all three races close on Friday 16 September with the 10k priced at just £16 (£14 for attached runners), 5k is £10 (£8) and 2k £5 for adults and £3 for children. Registration is available here.
