Entrants in this year’s Great Birmingham Run Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday October 16, can steal a march with news that they have a priority window in advance of general race entries being open for the new Birmingham International Marathon. Birmingham Half Marathon runners will be able to enter Great Run's new marathon (Sunday October 16, 2017) from noon on Friday, September 30. General entries will open on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
Starting at Alexander Stadium, the home of British Athletics, and finishing in the heart of the city, the inaugural 26.2-mile event will be staged on the same day as next year’s half marathon, passing sights such as Selfridges and Aston Hall.
“We have been overwhelmed by the reaction that has swept Birmingham since the event was unveiled earlier this year,” said Brendan Foster, chairman of the Great Run Company and former Olympic medallist.
“We’ll be establishing the Birmingham International Marathon as a world-class event that appeals to all abilities, from elite athletes to regular runners and people who want to raise money for charity.”
More than 13,000 people have now signed up for the marathon reminder service, which allows organisers to keep runners informed of key updates and announcements. To sign up for the service click here.
