Aintree Racecourse will undergo a transformation on Sunday 2 October as when it welcomes over 1,000 for the Matalan Merseyside 10K. The event, organised by Sports Tours International, follows a route entirely within the grounds of Aintree Racecourse, home to the famous Grand National.
Since it was established four years ago (it was formerly known as the Grand 10K at Aintree) this event has become a popular fixture in the North West race calendar. The race moves through the iconic racecourse, takes in some of the most famous names in British horseracing including The Chair and Becher's Brook as well as travelling along the Melling Road.
Momentum is gathering for the 2016 race with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital confirmed as the event’s official charity partner, while Souluxe, the activewear brand that is exclusive to retailers Matalan, have been confirmed as this year’s official partner.
Chris Bird, chief executive of Sports Tours International, commented: “This is a great event for people in Merseyside to take part – the route passes by many of the famous fences that are part of the Grand National. We are pleased to have the support of Matalan as the official partner and look forward to welcoming hundreds of runners to the event.”
Events on the day also include a Corporate Challenge, which allows businesses to enter a team of runners of three or more, with the winning team taking home the brand-new Rippleffect Corporate Cup as well as other prizes. For the family, a Toddler Trot, designed for children under 8 years old, will also take place.
Registration for the 10k is priced at just £15. More information is available here.
