Five Premier League referees will swap their whistles for running shoes to compete in the upcoming Asda Foundation Pennine Lancashire 10K. Mike Riley, Phil Dowd, Anthony Taylor, Bobby Madley and Mike Jones have all committed to competing in the event, which is scheduled for Sunday 28 June.
The race, set to celebrate its third year, passes a number of the town’s top landmarks and three of its beautiful parks – Rowley, Towneley and Thompson – before arriving for the grand finale outside the Town Hall.
Mike Jones, who has competed in four previous events organised by the Run for All team, commented: “We are really looking forward to taking on the 10k in Burnley. Having taken part in previous Run For All events we know there is always a great atmosphere and it’s inspiring to see so many people running for such good causes.”
Those taking on the challenge will raise tens of thousands for the event’s partner charities, which include Derian House Children’s Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, Pendleside Hospice, Shine and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, while many will be raising money for charities of their own choice.
Entries for the race are still open; more information on which is available here.
