Prizes for the Williams BMW Rochdale Half Marathon and 10K have been announced in a move that is likely to boost entry levels ahead of the event on Sunday 8 October. The total prize kitty will stand at over £2,500, with voucher prizes for the first five men and women in the Half Marathon and 10K, plus eight age category prizes for both races.
Since 2015 over 2,200 people have taken part, in the races which set out by the new Gracie Fields statue, passes the recently uncovered River Roch bridge and is all on traffic-free courses. The races offer the ideal blend of city and countryside, with runners departing from Rochdale Town Hall and moving through some of the north west’s most picturesque countryside.
Those looking to be in contention for podium places in the half will be competing for a £100 voucher for nationwide running store ‘Up and Running,’ with an £80 voucher going to second place, £60 for third, £40 for fourth and £30 for fifth. Winner of the 10k will receive an £80 voucher, with £60 for second, £40 for third and £30 and £20 for fourth and fifth placed runners. Team prizes will also be up for grabs, as will prizes for the first two non-club teams.
Looking ahead to October, Councillor Janet Emsley said of the event’s importance: “We are expecting to attract runners from across the North West and beyond, giving a boost to the local economy. This event helps promote health and fitness as well as putting the borough in the spotlight.”
Entry levels for 2017 are already up 35% on this time last year – any interested runners are therefore encouraged to register to avoid missing out. Further details are available here.
