Stockton-on-Tees was awash with intrepid River Rat Racers once again on Saturday 24 August. Nearly 1,000 runners braved the fifth annual 10K River Rat Race adventure run, tackling various obstacles along the way, including hill running, kayaking, a white water rafting courses (without the raft!) and the infamous plank walk!
Participants had to kayak down the River Tees, tackle assault courses, make a splash in the Tees Barrage International White Water Course, before diving back into the river after walking the plank from a replica of Captain Cook’s HM Bark Endeavour.
After the race, participants took to Facebook to post their thoughts. Melissa Forster commented: "Great day doing the rat race. A lot more obstacles this year and it was tough but, as always, fun."
Paul Jermy added: "Have to give our thanks for well organised event as it involved a river after all. Kayak/canoe teams were brilliant on the day for immediate support."
The River Rat Race will return in August 2015. Keep an eye on the Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council website for information. For photos of the event, go to the NORTHERN RUNNING GUIDE Facebook page.
