Ron Hill's 50 Year Run Streak

Ron Hill after winning the Enschede Marathon in 1975

Accrington's finest, Dr Ron Hill MBE will celebrate a 50-year run streak next weekend (Saturday 20 December) - yes, the great man will have run every day for half a century!  To mark the occasion Ron Hill will be taking over Sports Tours International's Twitter account on Thursday 18 December.  Ron is an ambassador for Sports Tours International and a regular at their big Manchester events.

If you would like to ask Ron a question about his running career get in touch on Twitter via @sportstoursint using the hashtag #AskRon.  Ron is looking forward to chatting with runners on Thursday:  "I’m more than happy to be celebrating by chatting to runners in the web chat."

76-year-old Ron, now resident in Hyde, Cheshire, still runs every day but at a more modest pace than in 1970 when he was lifting Commonwealth Games gold (Edinburgh) and winning the Boston Marathon.

On Saturday, 20 December Ron plans to take part in parkrun at Heaton Park and he can expect a great reception from a 300 plus field.

Chris Bird, CEO of Sports Tours International, commented: “Dr Ron Hill is one of the country’s greatest marathon runners and a true inspiration. Even when he’s been unwell, it hasn’t let it stop him taking his daily run, even running a mile a day in a plaster cast for six weeks. It’s an incredible achievement to be proud of.”
