The iconic Royal Albert Dock will become part of the BTR Liverpool Santa Dash route for the very first time. The 15th annual festive curtain raiser takes place on Sunday 2 December, when up to 10,000 festive runners will make their way through the estate of the Grade I Listed attraction.
The course modification from organisers BTR Liverpool comes in response to the closure of Churchill Flyover. It has brought, however, a welcome change that will further showcase the city.
Santas will gather on the start line at Pier Head Liverpool, part of the city’s iconic UNESCO World Heritage. The route will then take Santas through Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and the city centre, before crossing the finish line outside Liverpool Town Hall on Dale Street where they will be greeted by festive characters and ‘real’ snow.
In addition to news of the route change, there was also confirmation that Arriva North West will be offering Santas free travel on the Arriva bus network across Merseyside throughout Santa Dash day. To claim complimentary bus travel to or from the city centre, Santas must be wearing their Santa suit and race number or afterwards their finishers’ medal.
On the latest developments for this year’s Santa Dash, race director Alan Rothwell said: “We are delighted to welcome Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and Arriva North West on-board as partners of the 15th annual BTR Liverpool Santa Dash. Their support is paramount and we are thrilled to be working together, on what promises to be a very exciting year for the event.
“The new route will see Santas pass through the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool estate, and will further showcase our amazing city to homegrown Santas and those travelling from further afield. And I am confident that Arriva North West’s kind offer of free travel for Santas will prove extremely popular on the day.
“The sea of red, blue and mini Santas is an incredible sight, and the Santa Dash atmosphere really is something special. Join us and be part of the UK’s biggest festive fun run – you may even spot yourself on television!”
