Runners will be able to celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS by taking part in a new virtual event. The official NHS70 Virtual Run ‘7 for 70’Go is a joint project by Virtual Racing and NHS Charities Together.
This is an opportunity for runners of all ages and abilities to get involved in this not-for-profit event and show their support for the NHS. You can walk or run seven kilometres or seven miles to fundraise for charity. Participants will also receive a bespoke, double-sided medal as a reward. All monies raised will be shared among the hospitals involved in the NHS70 celebrations and across the UK.
Virtual runs are growing in popularity and are ideal for people who are looking to take their first step into racing but at a time and place to suit them. Entrants pick an event, choose their distance then select a date, location and pace. They then send proof of their achievement and, following confirmation, are awarded a medal for their efforts.
The brains behind this event are #TeamLGT, a running group comprised of over 100 staff from Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. Their leader, Jo Gennari encourages people to take part, saying: “This is a great way to show how much you appreciate the NHS and all the people whose dedication make it so special.”
Her enthusiasm is shared by John McGlone of Go Virtual Racing who believes in the power of physical activity to change lives and help others. He was proud to have launched an event that pays tribute to the hard-working NHS staff and raises vital funds for NHS Charities.
