Mark Allison aka Run Geordie Run, has completed the first week of his Benfield Australia Run. The challenge involves running 2,600 miles across Australia, starting from Perth and finishing in Bondi Beach, Sydney. Mark started the challenge on 15 October and has been keeping supporters regularly updated on Twitter.
On Friday, Mark, who in 2011 completed a 3,100 journey across America, tweeted: "I'm 5 miles ahead of the overall schedule to get me to Bondi on time. That's a position I was never in during the run across the USA."
Despite his swift progress, Mark's exertions have taken their toll on his body. On Monday he informed his followers that he was: "In so much pain. I can't lie on my side as my hips are so sore. This is agony."
Mark has set a prospective finishing date for Christmas Eve, 70 days after taking off. When he finishes he will have run just under 100 marathons with all funds raised split between The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and The Children's Foundation. The event is being sponsored by Benfield Motor Group who have paid for an RV motor home to house and support Mark's team.
