A group of 10 Santas with a head for heights were seen dashing above shoppers in Liverpool city centre last week as the UK’s biggest festive fun run draws near. Entries for the event, scheduled for Sunday 7 December, are now open and organisers are hopeful Liverpool will be able to wrestle the World Santa title from Las Vegas.
The Saint Nics were dressed in full Santa suits as they took to the 100ft high Liverpool Wire on Church Street to remind the public about the milestone 10th anniversary of the BTR Liverpool Santa Dash 5K.
BTR race director Alan Rothwell said: “The Liverpool Wire is a fun and exciting way to remind people that the 10th anniversary BTR Liverpool Santa Dash is on its way. The Santa Dash is a real spectacle, just like The Liverpool Wire, so what better sight than to see 10 Santas flying over the heads of shoppers and tourists.
“People walk round with a big smile as soon as they put that Santa suit on to take part in the Dash – and the zipping Santas are sure to bring a lot of laughter and the feel-good factor to the city.”
BTR staged the very first Liverpool Santa Dash in 2004 with 2,000 entries. It has since grown in size year on year. In 2007, the event was expanded to also include a 1K Mini Dash for youngsters, followed by the introduction of blue Santa suits in 2010
Participants are provided with a full Santa suit, and blue Santa suits are limited to just 500 so early registration is recommended. All finishers receive a commemorative medal. Early bird entry is £22 up to 8 November, and then £27. More information is available here.
