If you have ever fancied the chance of putting your metronomic kilometre splits to the test and want to help out your fellow runners achieve their target time, this opportunity might just be for you. Organisers of the English Half Marathon and 10K have issued a rallying call for pacers for the race on Sunday 17 September.
In what will be its ninth year, the EHM has regularly attracted a sell-out field with more than 3,000 taking part last year. 2015 witnessed a significant change to the EHM when, after six years of starting and finishing at Warrington’s Victoria Park, the ace moved to the iconic Golden Gates of Warrington Town Hall.
This change has been popular with runners and allowed for new town centre race sections to be introduced. As such, both the half marathon and 10k courses leave from the Town Hall before crossing Bridgefoot and heading south.
In the later stages runners enjoy some great sights – the Guardians at Market Gate, the River of Life on Bridge Street, the Cultural Quarter and Halliwell Jones Stadium, home of Warrington Wolves, before the grand finale at the Golden Gates.
The opportunity to lead a team of runners through the iconic gates is sure to be in high demand and anyone interested in pacing at September’s event can fill out a recruitment form here.
