Sichel Completes Ultra Project

William SichelOrkney-based ultra athlete William Sichel has successfully completed his pursuit of completing 165 ultra running records some three years before anticipated. The challenge, entitled project165.com, was achieved after Sichel set 21 new age-group records at last month’s Bislett Indoor International Endurance Festival 48 Hour race in Oslo.

The project was conceived as Sichel aimed to set 165 ultra running records at World, British and Scottish level, including age groups, before his 65th birthday on October 1, 2018.

A large part of the groundwork for this was done at the The Sri Chinmony 3,100 Mile Race in New York. Known as the longest footrace in the world, Sichel ran for over 50 days and set new records at British M60, British Overall and World M60 levels.

Reflecting on his success, Sichel commented: “When I conceived this project I had absolutely no idea how I would get on and a series of ‘bad’ races would have meant that I would certainly have needed all of the 5 years that I planned.”

With his project165.com already wrapped up, Sichel is looking towards new challenges for 2016. Watch this space.
