Sichel On Track For 165

William Sichel in WalesOrkney-based ultra marathon runner William Sichel is well making fine progress in his pursuit of project165. com, in which he aims to set 165 ultra running records before his 65th birthday on October 1, 2018. Sichel’s latest effort at the Barry 40 Mile Track Race saw him take 10th place but more importantly four Scottish age-group records.

His performance in Wales means he will claim record for his time at 30 miles, 50 km, 40 miles and 6 hours and also a British Age-Group record for his 6 hour distance.

Reflecting on the race, which was won by Scotland’s Grant Jeans in a time of 4:25:15, Sichel said: “It was a cool, damp day so pretty good for distance running really. It felt a bit strange going to a race after breakfast and then being home in time for tea!”

Sichel will now turn his attention to the World 6 Day Trophy in Balaton, Hungary on 6 May, an event the runner won in 2011 when he covered 518 miles.

As part of his Project165.com, Sichel also hopes to highlight the benefits of exercise for the over 60s as well as raise money for the CLAN cancer support charity, with over £10,000 raised already. More information is available here
