After a few weeks of sunshine, the classic Lakeland weather set in for runners taking part in the final instalment of the Silva 10K in Coniston. The evening event brought rain and mist, yet this didn’t seem to act as a deterrent for competitors who took on a challenging course over Yewdale Fells.
With longer evenings the race started at 8.30pm over slated tracks and gentle inclines. The route headed up Yewdale Beck and into the wind at Tilberthwaite Gill then headed across the fell, towards Hole Rake, before descending (with caution, in some cases) to Miner's Bridge at Church Beck, and returning to the village and the finish.
The pace was fast amongst the front runners, with first finisher Tom Adams (42:45) five minutes ahead of Bruce Duncan (47:41) in second, and Kie Jackson third in 48:07. In the women’s competition, Ashleigh Thorpe (58:28) took first, followed by Lucy Spain (1:01:35) and Lucy Jones (1:02:13).
This was the final event in the Silva10 series this season, and finished with a classic in Open Adventure's heartland of the Lake District. For more information on the upcoming events, visit the event website.
