Ourea Events, organiser of the Great Lakeland 3Day, have confirmed that Silva will be the title sponsor of the event until 2019. The GL3D, scheduled for 29 April – 1 May, has been running since 1998 and is an adventurous, three-day mountain marathon challenge that offers competitors stunning views of the Lake District.
The event’s emphasis is on quality long days in the hills so participants can expect mostly mountain trails and footpaths, along ridges and through valleys. Meanwhile their camping kit is transported ahead to the next overnight camp.
The friendly nature of the event means people can set off anytime during the start window each day; the faster finishers usually set off last allowing for everyone to arrive into camp at a roughly similar time.
Shane Ohly, race director, believes the arrangement with Silva will further boost the GL3Day’s reach: “We’re delighted that Silva has confirmed their support for the next three editions of the Great Lakeland 3Day.
“We are looking forward to working with Silva to further cement the GL3D’s reputation as both a fantastic standalone event and a springboard into our more navigationally intensive mountain marathons like Marmot Dark Mountain and the ROC Mountain Marathon.”
