For a second successive year, the Mast Race 10K, an event that takes competitors 5k uphill and 5k downhill, will be a sell-out. The race has clearly caught the attention of runners in and around Bolton with organisers Time2Run Events recently making the decision to increase event places to keep up with demand.
Scheduled for Sunday 21 January, the 10k will see participants tackle a multi terrain run (4.2 mile road, 2 mile fell) on an out and back course from Smithills school to the summit of Winter Hill (Near Mast) and back.
Last year saw a Horwich Harriers 1-2 with Chris Farrell taking top spot in 36:17, followed by club-mate Gareth Booth (38:32), with Leigh Harriers’ Neil Pendlebury in third (38:40). Burnden Road Runners’ Paula Pilling was first in the female field in 47:53, with Lesley Fisher (50:04) and Emma Bowen (53:25) in second and third respectively.
The Mast Race 10K is under the direction of Time2Run Events, organisers of the Wirral Way Trail Half Marathon (taking place this Sunday), the popular Bolton Hill Marathon (Saturday 2 June) and the Scorcher Run Festival, a week-long event in July which offers the opportunity to compete across six distances each day.
