The Run for All Yorkshire Marathon has announced an extended sponsorship deal with Plusnet in an agreement that will run until 2017. In addition, there was confirmation that the award-winning UK home and broadband provider will sponsor the new Yorkshire Half Marathon-Sheffield and the Leeds Half Marathon through to 2017.
Since being established in 2013, the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon has become an extremely popular fixture in the racing calendar, attracting 7000 runners in October. The marathon course starts and finishes at the Heslington campus, part of the University of York, with the scenic course winding through Walmgate Bar, Parliament Street and St Helen's Square.
All three of the events are part of the lasting legacy of the late fundraiser and campaigner Jane Tomlinson who raised almost £2m for charity. Her family and the organisation which bears her name have now raised almost £8m for good causes, primarily children’s and cancer charities.
Andy Baker, CEO of Plusnet, commented on the sponsorship: “We are delighted to confirm our involvement with these three fantastic events for the next three years. They provide a great challenge for all taking part and, more importantly, raise hundreds of thousands of pounds to support the vital work of some excellent charities.”
“It has been heartening to see the way in which runners of all abilities have embraced the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon from day one. Extending our support to the Yorkshire Half Marathon-Sheffield and Leeds Half Marathon creates a series of Plusnet-backed runs that will help thousands of people to achieve both their running and fundraising goals.”
