There's still time to take advantage of early registration rates for two unusual races in Berlin. The events, scheduled for spring 2013, are the Berlin Airport Run - Wednesday, 24 April and Big 25 Berlin - Sunday, 5 May. The Airport Run takes advantage of the fact that the new Berlin airport is not ready yet, therefore allowing the race to take place for one more year. The Big 25 is run over an unusual distance (25k) but there are half marathon and 10k options available as well as a junior race over 800m.
The Berlin Airport Run is a hugely popular race that will be held for the 7th (and almost certainly) the last time after this major German construction project ran over schedule. Air travel's loss is the running community's gain and they will turn out in their thousands for the evening event. Early registration at 18€ is available until 7 January.
The Big 25 has a reputation as a well-organised event with a feature finish inside the Olympic Stadium. Runners considering an autumn marathon will find the 25k (15.53 miles) an ideal distance to test their readiness for the full 26.2 mile test. Registration is held at 25€ until 7 January.
With the German capital readily accessible by budget airline from most parts of the UK, runners looking for something different will be tempted by these unusual Berlin events.
