Spring sunshine compensated for heavy underfoot conditions following torrential overnight rain at Saturday's Cartmel trail running festival. Over 1,000 runners from all over the UK, including visitors from United States, Holland, Belgium and Ireland finished the various events on the day, all earning themselves a Sticky Toffee Pudding for their efforts, along with an event T shirt memento.
Sub 4 minute miler and Commonwealth Games 800m runner Neil Speaight, from Belgrave Harriers, made light of the extremely holding conditions, to establish a new course record and win the Sticky Toffee Trail Run 10k in 39.08. A record too for first lady Sarah Ridehalgh (42.59) of Accrington RR.
The 18K trail event also saw a new record time with Sale Harrier Gareth Raven flying to victory in 67.54. Lizzie Adams (Hallamshire Harriers) was fastest woman in 79.34.
The next event in the Lakeland Trails series is on May 7 at Hawkshead, with only a few places still available. Further details and full results from the event website.
