For anyone thinking of heading to Kelso on Sunday (6 March) to participate in the Hastings Borders Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K, places are still available. On-the-day entry is available for all three races, with each one starting at 9am from Kelso Golf Club.
Organiser Chris Renton (pictured) explains why he started the event: “The idea behind this event is to encourage more local runners to enter a local event. The nearest marathon race in the Scottish Borders is Kielder Marathon in England.. I travel a lot to get to races so why not have one on our doorstep. As the Scottish Borders doesn't have a marathon at this moment in time, then why not?
“The officially measured 26.2 miles will be run entirely around the safety track on the inside of the racecourse so it is a great opportunity to bag your first marathon distance for the year and blow away the cobwebs. Each lap is 1.11 miles in distance and will take each marathon runner approximately 23.5 laps to complete the full distance.”
The event is run entirely off-road with the track consisting mainly of hard packed gravel. As an extra incentive, Hastings will award a £50 Run and Become voucher for the first local club runner in each of the three events.
Places are still available for all three races with entries taken on the day. For more information, visit Entry Central.
